How does it work?

Fullness under the chin, also known as “submental fat”, or the “double chin”, can distort the definition of our neck and jaw line, especially during daily activities such as smiling, yawning, or looking down at our phones . . . It accumulates for many reasons including age, genetics, and changes in body weight.   Once it is there, it is very difficult to lose.

Deoxycholic acid is a naturally occurring substance that breaks down dietary fat.  Synthetic deoxycholic acid such as Belkyra® can shrink fat cells and prevent them from growing and storing fat ever again…yes, permanently!

Belkyra® injections are approved as a non-surgical means to permanently reduce the fullness under your chin caused by submental fat, resulting in a sharper, contoured neck profile and jaw line.

What to expect?

Tiny needles are used to strategically inject small amounts of deoxycholic into a carefully selected area under your chin to directly target the submental fat. The procedure usually lasts about 20 minutes, and topical numbing cream or ice can be used to enhance patient comfort.

Patients usually require 4 to 6 treatments, 6 to 8 weeks apart, for best results. Many patients notice a significant difference after their third session. 

DOWNTIME: 

Bruising and swelling are common and usually described as mild.  This often resolves within 2 weeks.   Associated discomfort usually dissipates within 3 hours.
